Woodcut Nativity Videos (English & Spanish)

Description

A nativity scene cut in the style of a woodblock print, brought gently to life for Christmas Eve. The camera moves slowly toward the manger as the stable, the shepherds and the magi separate into layers of depth. Above them the star breathes with light, its rays shimmer, and the night sky twinkles. Mary and Joseph kneel over the child laid in the manger (Luke 2:7), with shepherds on one side and magi bearing gifts on the other.

Mary, Joseph and the child are drawn with brown skin, closer to the Middle Eastern family of the Gospels, and the shepherds and magi gathered around them span a range of skin tones. The figures themselves never move, so every face stays exactly as the artist drew it.

The camera settles at six seconds and the scene holds for the rest of the video, with the star and sky still moving, so it can stay on screen while people find their seats or as the candles are lit. The words appear in the open sky on either side of the star, set in a warm cream type, and arrive with a soft ink-press reveal.
