Affirming Sunday

Affirming Sunday is a day for churches to celebrate the diversity of God’s creation and to reaffirm their commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion. This year, Affirming Sunday is on June 4th.

There are many ways that churches can mark Affirming Sunday. Here are a few ideas:

• Preach a sermon on the importance of LGBTQIA+ inclusion. This sermon could focus on the biblical basis for inclusion, the importance of love and acceptance, or the harm that can be caused by exclusion.
• Have a special worship service that celebrates LGBTQIA+ people. This service could include readings from LGBTQIA+ authors, songs by LGBTQIA+ artists, or prayers for LGBTQIA+ people and their families.
• Host an event or gathering for LGBTQIA+ people and their allies. This could be a potluck, a movie night, or a game night. The goal of the event would be to create a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ people to connect with each other and with their faith community.
