Description

Your church is Reconciling. But since the 2024 General Conference, plenty of people, including some in your pews, assume every United Methodist church is now the same. They aren’t. This carousel explains what being Reconciling means in eight slides, plainly enough for a visitor scrolling past and specifically enough to show that your welcome is a commitment your congregation chose.

The slides cover what a Reconciling congregation commits to: ministry with LGBTQ+ people, continued learning and relationship-building, and advocacy for full inclusion, including marriage and ordination. They explain why a Reconciling statement names sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression rather than settling for “all are welcome,” and they tell the story from the first Reconciling congregations in 1984 to the 2024 General Conference, with an honest word about why a change in policy isn’t a change of heart.

The design runs on a flowing rainbow gradient that moves from lime through coral and magenta to lavender and teal as you swipe, so the full spectrum unfolds across the set. Each slide carries the text on a frosted panel that stays readable on any phone.

What the slides cover

  • Cover: What does it mean to be a “Reconciling” church?
  • The short answer: a public commitment to welcome and affirm LGBTQ+ people, in partnership with the Reconciling Ministries Network
  • More than a welcome: ministry, learning, and advocacy for marriage and ordination
  • A promise with names in it: why “all are welcome” isn’t enough
  • The whole church decides: discernment and a congregational vote
  • Part of a long story: from 1984 to more than 1,400 Reconciling churches today
  • Why it still matters: the 2024 General Conference, with Romans 15:7
  • Closing: All of who you are is welcome here

What you get

  • Eight feed slides, 1080 x 1350 PNG
  • The same eight slides for Stories, 1080 x 1920 PNG
  • A blank image in both sizes with an empty frosted panel, ready for your own statement of welcome, a Reconciling anniversary, or service times
  • Open space in the bottom-right corner of every slide for your church logo
  • Ready to post as is, or import into Canva to add your logo

How to use it

Post the full set on the Sunday you celebrate your Reconciling anniversary, during Pride Month, or whenever you welcome new members. Pin it to the top of your Instagram profile so visitors checking out your church find it first. Use the blank image to share a line from your own statement of welcome. The closing slide says your church is a Reconciling congregation, so this set is written for churches that have already voted to become Reconciling. New to carousels? Our quick tutorial will show you how.
