Description

Your church is Reconciling in Christ. But in the ELCA, where each congregation decides its own stance, visitors can’t assume anything about where a Lutheran church stands, and plenty of people in your own pews couldn’t explain what the designation means. This carousel explains it in eight slides, plainly enough for a visitor scrolling past and specifically enough to show that your welcome is a commitment your community chose together.

The slides cover what a Reconciling in Christ congregation commits to: a welcome statement that names people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions, joined to a commitment to racial equity. They explain how the community discerns and votes to adopt that statement, and they trace the story from Lutherans organizing for LGBTQ+ inclusion in 1974 and the Reconciling in Christ program’s start in 1983 to more than 1,000 congregations today. The set closes with an honest word about why, even after the ELCA’s 2009 decision, a congregation still needs to say where it stands.

The design runs on a flowing rainbow gradient that moves from lime through coral and magenta to lavender and teal as you swipe, so the full spectrum unfolds across the set. Each slide carries the text on a frosted panel that stays readable on any phone.

What the slides cover

  • Cover: What does it mean to be a “Reconciling in Christ” church?
  • The short answer: a public commitment to welcome, celebrate, and advocate for LGBTQIA+ people, in partnership with ReconcilingWorks
  • A promise with names in it: why “all are welcome” isn’t enough
  • A welcome that goes further: the commitment to racial equity
  • The whole church decides: discernment and a vote to adopt the welcome statement
  • Part of a long story: from 1974 and 1983 to more than 1,000 congregations today
  • Why it still matters: the ELCA’s 2009 decision, with Romans 15:7
  • Closing: All of who you are is welcome here

What you get

  • Eight feed slides, 1080 x 1350 PNG
  • The same eight slides for Stories, 1080 x 1920 PNG
  • A blank image in both sizes with an empty frosted panel, ready for your own welcome statement, a Reconciling in Christ anniversary, or service times
  • Open space in the bottom-right corner of every slide for your church logo
  • Ready to post as is, or import into Canva to add your logo

How to use it

Post the full set on the Sunday you celebrate becoming Reconciling in Christ, during Pride Month, or whenever you welcome new members. Pin it to the top of your Instagram profile so visitors checking out your church find it first. Use the blank image to share a line from your own welcome statement. The closing slide says your church is a Reconciling in Christ congregation, so this set is written for churches that have already adopted their welcome statement. New to carousels?
